My name is Sotires Pagiavlas (pronounced SO-TEE-REESE PAH-YIA-VLAHSS, approximately), but I also go by my nickname, "Sotos." I'm currently in my fifth year of the Marketing Ph.D. program at the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Business Administration in 2015, receiving the Undergraduate Excellence in Marketing Award. From UNC, I graduated as a Buckley Public Service Scholar and received the Wade S. Dunbar, Jr. and John Duke Baldridge, Jr. scholarships through the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Personal Interests and HOBBIES
After I bid adieu to my cubicle for the day, I try to find a way to join a pick-up soccer or basketball game. I also organize several intramural sports teams comprised of mainly Darla Moore School of Business students. While we almost never win, we always sweat and laugh, which is enough of an accomplishment for us.
I also love attending hip-hop concerts and I try to bring pop music and pop culture references into my in-class examples to help my students relate to the content. I find that examples which include popular public figures make students more engaged, prompting them to think of counter examples or extensions much more easily.
I took the concert photo while attending Kanye West's "Life of Pablo" tour in Nashville in 2016.
